Dr. Steve Amado, MD

Associate Professor, Universidad Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario · Co-founder & Secretary, SIBECS

Bogota, Colombia

Dr. Steve Amado is an otolaryngologist and somnology specialist whose work has helped shape the landscape of sleep medicine across Latin America. Based in Bogota, Colombia, he brings a multidisciplinary perspective to the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and sleep-disordered breathing.

He served as co-editor of Springer's Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Multidisciplinary Approach (2023), a landmark clinical reference that synthesizes contributions from sleep surgeons, dentists, pulmonologists, and neurologists into a unified treatment framework. The textbook reflects Dr. Amado's conviction that effective OSA management requires collaboration across medical specialties.

Dr. Amado is a co-founder and serves as Secretary of SIBECS (Sociedad Iberoamericana de Cirugia del Sueno), the Iberoamerican Sleep Surgery Society. Through SIBECS, he has worked to establish standardized protocols for sleep surgery training and clinical practice across Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries, creating a network of sleep medicine specialists that spans two continents.

As an Associate Professor at the Universidad Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Senora del Rosario in Bogota, one of Colombia's oldest and most prestigious universities, Dr. Amado trains the next generation of ENT specialists in the principles of somnology and airway management. His academic work emphasizes the importance of conservative, evidence-based interventions as the foundation of any sleep-disordered breathing treatment plan.

Why Dr. Amado Endorses Snorple

"The greatest challenge in sleep medicine is not the absence of effective treatments — it is the gap between what works in the clinic and what patients actually use at home. Compliance is the single biggest predictor of long-term outcomes, and compliance requires comfort, simplicity, and affordability. Snorple addresses all three. Its combination of mandibular advancement and tongue stabilization reflects the multidisciplinary philosophy that my colleagues and I advocate in our clinical work. I am particularly encouraged by its potential to reach patients across Latin America and other regions where access to specialized sleep clinics remains limited."
